Contributors of Negative Energy in Life: Resentment
Continuing with our discussion on negative energy escalators in life, yesterday, I received a video from, Bob Proctor, my teacher and business partner. He was featured in the movie and book, “The Secret”. He needs no introduction. He is the ultimate personal development coach revered in over 90 countries of the world.
I am also a part of a beautiful program from Bob Proctor. It is called, “Six Minutes to Success.” In this short videos are sent out every working day to subscribers, with a five-minute exercise. Yesterday’s “Six Minutes to Success” video and exercise was targeted towards resentment and guilt. I decided to devote two separate blog pieces on these.
Today’s blog piece is targeted towards resentment. This is one of the major causes of negativity in almost everyone’s life. Resentment is a powerful negative force. Many times we do not even realize that it is existent, yet as sly and powerful as it is, it never fails to control and overpower us.
Now most people would not admit to having resentment towards anyone or anything. This is not because they are lying. It is because most people do not even realize when they are actually harbouring resentment.
Let us examine how –
- Overt manifestation of resentment is in the form of anger towards anyone or anything, we all know that.
- This anger is sometimes expressed and creates ugly situations for all to see. And at other times, it is suppressed and creates ugly situations within ourselves, the resultants of which are felt by us as well as others.
- Inert manifestation of resentment takes many forms like self pity, excessive need for sympathy, compulsive need to control others – many times with emotional tactics, unexplained diseases usually with long-term physical manifestations and many other such situations.
- Most people feel resentment when they believe they are wronged by someone or something.
- Now, this thought of being wronged could just be their perception, still it is very real for them. If they think from the other person’s point of view, they may see their approach also.
- Sometimes, in order to hide certain things from the other people around them, people conjure up certain thoughts in their minds, which make them feel justified. Then they go about repeating these thoughts to themselves until they start appearing real to them. This way, they feel justified but do not realize that they produce resentment within themselves as well as in others around them, who recognize their falsifications.
- One more thing, perhaps the biggest one – you can love someone and still hold resentment towards them.
There are many such situations that we can keep on discussing. But the main point of importance is that resentment needs to be taken away from life.
Sometimes, we do recognize and know our resentment very well. And then we try to “control” or “win over” it by suppressing it. We may think we are actually winning the battle, but the reality is that this does not work.
The only thing that works against resentment is release. Yes, release the resentment you feel towards anyone or anything. And this you can do in a two-step strategy, which you can do in complete solitude –
- Set a time limit to think clearly, and recognize your resentment. Admit it to yourself. After this time limit elapses do not give any thoughts to this. If your thoughts wander just tell yourself that your timeline for this exercise is over. You would be able to switch your thoughts easily.
- In your thoughts give energy to whomever or whatever you feel resentment towards by telling yourself that you wish them to prosper and do well. This way, you would be able to forgive and let go completely. Remember, when you focus on ill wishes they come right back at you. So, it is better to wish well and aid the release process. You feel better immediately.
The above is not easy. But it is simple as it is the only way you can rid yourself of resentment.
Remember, resentment heavily hampers your chances of attainment of success. So, this exercise is worth doing if you wish to move forward in your life.
